Recently I bought some PIC12F509 on ebay, from China. They didn't work, showing 000000h when reading out, and after many programming attempts. Seems no silicon inside. Be careful and better order from a trustworthy supplier.
The fake, counterfeit chips are recognizable on the markings, on top: lower right corner (Date Code YYWW (Year Week): 0642
On the bottom there is just a letter and a number, instead of THAILAND in a circle, for example.
